Abstract:The tourism activities in the late Ming Dynasty were extremely prosperous, and many literati developed their own "tourism ideas" and those ideas penetrated into the garden construction at that time. Among them, the combination of geographer Wang Shixing's tourism ideas and gardening art is particularly unique. This article restores White Gull Garden through studying literature, analyzes its spatial layout and landscape elements, summarizes the spatial characteristics and connotations of its "collection-style" gardens, and explores the relationship between its gardening techniques and the unique travel experience and ideas of Wang Shixing.
