Abstract:Classical gardens are important places where women's cultural landscapes emerge, couple's secret garden is a type of garden with rich feminine characteristics. Hanshan Bieye, a representative of the late Ming mountain gardens in Jiangnan, was chosen as the object of the study. Using historical documents and image contexts as the basic research approach, the study integrates the history of women, the history of gardens, the history of social life and other disciplines. Based on extracting the texts and paintings by the two female masters of the garden, Lu Qingzi and Wen Chu, in conjunction with the garden records, historical records and other documents, the influence of women's consciousness on the construction of gardens and the role of gardens in the practice of women's lives are explored; the characteristics of the female cultural landscape in the context of couple's seclusion in the late Ming Dynasty are revealed and the dimensions of garden research are expanded.
