Abstract:As a semi-outdoor space for summer living in Turpan vernacular architectures, shed space has the same important role as the Ayiwang space.According to the field investigation, combined with the literature, the background, type, structure, characteristics of the shed space are combed, the three types of relationship between the shed and the house are refined, and the regularity of the flexible and ambiguous functional organization under the shed is summarized. The geographical distribution of shed space is distinguished by center and edge of cultural geography, and the unique adaptability of shed space to Turpan residential is discussed from the comparison between shed and Ayiwang categories.
