Abstract:Taking the traditional villages in the South Taihang area of Xinxiang as the research object, this paper analyzes the elements of the village space in this area from the overall perspective by using the methods of field survey, aerial photography of unmanned aerial vehicles and literature review, and discusses the environmental adaptability in the village construction. The results show that: 1) the location of villages is mostly located in the foothills or valleys; 2) According to the location of the village and the shape of the stree, it can be divided into three types, zigzag type, leaf vein type,and grid type; 3) There are three types of mountain construction methods to adapt to the terrain, stacked type, high desktop type, and staggered type; 4) The overall village environment presents a village vertical landscape pattern of "forest-house-field-water" isomorphism; 5) The production-living-ecological spaces, as the constituent elements of the village space, are interrelated and meet the needs of human survival, safety, and livability
