Abstract:Mainly based on the records related to the construction of Yiyuan in the letters home and diaries of Guoyunlou written by Gu Wenbin in the reigns of emperors Tongzhi and Guangxu in Qing Dynasty, including layout, architecture, landscapes, flowers and trees, gardening design concepts and garden livings, combining the relevant poems, atlases in the late Qing Dynasty and existing relics of Yiyuan, this paper tries to explore the scenes of the initial period and analyze the gardening ideas of Gu Wenbin. The gardening techniques may provide reference for the further restoration of Yiyuan and the creation of modern gardens. It also contributes to the related research on the gardening style of Suzhou in the late Qing Dynasty.
