苏州水巷两岸环境优雅宁静，沿河民居乌瓦粉墙高低错落。苏州小桥流水随岸而建的民居格局，早在唐朝已形成，到宋代已日臻完善。苏州水巷码头在满足功用的基础上又兼顾到造型的美观与石驳岸和周围环境的和谐统一，因而苏州水巷码头集中体现了秀、巧、美三个字。

The environment on both banks of Suzhou Water Lane is elegant and quiet, the black tiles and the powder walls of the people's houses along the river are staggered. The residential pattern of Suzhou building Small Bridge with the shore was formed as early as the Tang Dynasty and tended to be completed by the Song Dynasty. Suzhou Water Lane Wharf on the basis of satisfying the function and taking shape into account, and the harmonious unity of the stone barge and the surrounding environment, so the Suzhou Water Lane Wharf embodies the three words of comely, opportunely and beauty.
