新建北京图书馆的两株古银杏树

Two ancient ginkgo trees in Beijing Library

摘要:

八十年代北京十大建筑之——北京图书馆，院内矗立着两株参天的古银杏树，树干直径约1.5米，树龄约有五、六百年。两株树种植的缘由如下所述。元代，从白石桥往西约一华里处的镇国寺，明代改建为万寿寺，《帝京景物略》称此处为白石庄，有万驸马园。园内花木繁茂，以牡丹著称。清初，改为王爷坟，墓冢高筑，神道上有石人、石马，陵墓区内龟砆石碑树立，是清顺治皇帝之叔济尔哈朗郑亲王的陵墓，入口处便有这两株古树。两株参天古树在设计时作为园林设计的一部分，周围布置假山石蹬、曲径、花坛，使之成了一处景观。在北京图书馆新建施工中重点保护，工程竣工验收时，这两株古树，完好无损地保存了下来。

Abstract:

The Beijing Library, about one li west of Beijing Baishi Bridge, was one of the top ten buildings in Beijing in the 1980s. Here used to be the site of Zhenguo Temple in yuan Dynasty. On the site, there are two towering ancient ginkgo trees with a trunk diameter of about 1.5 meters and a tree age of about 500 or 600 years. In the construction of Beijing Library project, they were preserved intact through the efforts of the construction team.
