Structural treatment of the East Building of Beijing Library

北京图书馆东楼位于北海西岸，为了与环境及周围古建筑取得协调统一，经与市规划局等有关部门多次反复讨论研究，最后确定采用具有民族形式的建筑形式：中间主体部分采用卷棚歇山重檐绿琉璃瓦屋顶，两翼阅览室部分，屋顶采用盝顶。为了加强中国建筑的形式感，结合功能使用要求，在二层设有通长的挑阳台，其栏杆带有民族形式的图案，以取得丰富建筑的外立面。在考虑具有中国建筑特征的同时，设计、施工上增加一些复杂性，但却减少屋面部分土建投资。

Abstract:

The east branch building of Beijing Library is located on the west bank of Bei hai. In order to harmonize with the environment and surrounding ancient buildings, it has been decided to adopt the architectural form with national style after many discussions with the municipal Planning Bureau and other relevant departments. While considering the characteristics of Chinese architecture, the complexity of design should be increased, and the investment of roof civil construction should be reduced in practical engineering.
