Abstract:In 212 BC, Emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered the construction of a large palace complex, chao Gong. The front hall of chao Gong was the historic Epang Palace. The project was so huge that when Qin Shihuang died, only one front hall was completed. After that, Xiang Yu went to Xianyang and burned down all the qin palaces, including the Epang Palace. The present ruins of Epang Palace are only a rectangular rammed earth platform, 1,300 meters long from east to west, 500 meters wide from north to south, with the highest partial base of more than 10 meters. Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu described its magnificence in his Ode to the Epang Palace. The epang Palace site has been listed as a key cultural relic site under national protection.
